Book’s Quest

This capstone project is a 2D pixel art adventure game built on GameMaker and utilizes apps such as Pixelables to create the characters and background. The main character, a book named Book, realizes its friends are missing when they don’t show up at Book’s house. The missing books—titles players may recognize as some of the most frequently challenged in North America—have vanished, and Book takes it upon itself to find its friends, following clues and talking to others along the way. Through gamification, this project will connect players to the emotional weight of censorship by invoking feelings of anxiety, sadness, and determination.

Cat Cafe Antics

Cat Cafe Antics is a silly, sarcasm-filled visual novel about two friends at a cat cafe with some great lo-fi music, and yes, there is a talking cat.

Interpreting Women: Gendered Narratives in English Translations of Homer’s Odyssey

This study analyzes how eleven English translators of the Odyssey represent mortal women, focusing on Books 18-22, and reveals gender bias in their language choices. It centers on mortal characters: Penelope, Eurycleia, Melantho, and the serving women executed by Telemachus. The dataset consists of ten male translators and Emily Wilson, the first woman to publish an English translation of the Odyssey in 2017. All text analysis was done using Voyant Tools.
